Title : Salt Basin, Texas, U.S.A. February 1994
Caption :
Featured in this photograph is the highly reflective, arid, west Texas Salt Basin. During wetter times these salt flats were water-filled lakes. Apparent are irrigated field patterns (center of photograph); dark, circular volcanic domes (laccoliths) west of the cultivated fields; and the southern extent of the Guadalupe Mountains, including El Capitan and Guadalupe Peak, the highest elevation in Texas [8751 feet (2667 meters) above sea level].
